Feldstein Library and Wondering Jews present: "In the Wake of Maddness" by Bettie Denny
Wednesday, May 21, 2025 • 23 Iyyar 5785
1:00 PM - 2:30 PMJoin us for a compelling afternoon with local Jewish author, Bettie Denny, who will share the riveting personal journey behind her newest book, In the Wake of Madness: My Family’s Escape from the Nazis.
Even if you haven’t read the book, this program offers a unique window into the stories that inspired it. While most books about the Holocaust focus on the atrocities of the Nazi death camps and labor camps, In the Wake of Madness centers on how Bettie's family escaped - and the combination of savvy, courage and luck that allowed them to work their way to America, and on the effects of the Diaspora. Thanks to a collection of letters and documents saved by her parents from the tumultuous years of 1937-1950, we understand their hopes and fears in real time. It's an inspiring story with chilling parallels to our times. Read reviews here.
Pre-order the book from Annie Bloom's (or the bookshop of your choice) and bring it along to be signed!
